Friends and Family Program

Our Strengths and Our Approach

Healing Springs Ranch is a private, Joint Commission-accredited residential treatment center on 80 acres of lakefront property in Tioga, Texas. We treat mental health conditions, addictions and trauma in adults including individuals struggling with mental health challenges with or without addiction. What makes us different is the lens through which we treat: we focus on the “why” behind the “what”.

Most programs treat behaviors, we treat the unresolved emotional pain, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions that drive those behaviors in the first place. Our proprietary Integrated Wellness Model addresses mental health, addiction, and trauma together through one integrated approach that goes beyond trauma informed treatment.  Rather than separating care between different providers, we treat the person with any one of these challenges or any combination of them.  We also address the underlying emotional pain and trauma that often drives the symptoms in the first place.

  • Clinical expertise in complex co-occurring cases that other programs are not equipped to handle - multiple simultaneous mental health, trauma, and substance use diagnoses
  • An Integrated Wellness Model that treats the whole person - mind, body, and spirit - rather than fragmenting care across disciplines
  • Active trauma resolution, not just trauma-informed care
  • A 45-day core curriculum (most programs run 30) with the flexibility to extend when clinically indicated
  • Master's-level licensed clinicians, a dedicated nursing team, psychiatrists, and behavioral health technicians collaborating on every case
  • Individualized treatment plans - no two are identical
  • Robust family programming so the family unit heals alongside the client
  • A private, serene ranch setting that protects discretion for executives, professionals, and public figures
  • Recreational amenities woven into clinical work: private lake, 9-hole golf course, yoga, and ranch activities
  • All-inclusive, transparent pricing - treatment, housing, nutritious meals, and amenities in one rate with no hidden fees
  • The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Behavioral Health Care Accreditation

The result is treatment that does not just interrupt a cycle - it changes the relationship between a person and the pain underneath the cycle. That is what makes recovery last.

When someone you love is struggling with mental health, addiction, or trauma, you are often the one carrying the weight of trying to find help. You have probably already done research, made calls, and felt the difference between programs that talk about care and programs that actually deliver it. We want you to know what to expect from us.

Many of the clients who come to us have been somewhere else first - sometimes more than once - because their challenges were too complex for a behavior-only approach. We treat addiction, mental health conditions, and trauma together through our Integrated Wellness Model, because in most cases they are not separate problems. They are one problem expressed in different ways.

Your loved one will receive an individualized treatment plan, not a template. They will work with master's-level licensed clinicians, a dedicated nursing team, psychiatrists, and behavioral health technicians - all coordinating on the same case. They will live in a private, beautiful setting that supports rest and reflection. And critically, you will not be on the outside looking in: our family programming is built so that the family unit heals alongside the client. Recovery is more likely to last when the people around the client are part of the work.

Our pricing is all-inclusive and transparent - treatment, housing, meals, and amenities in one rate. No surprise charges, no hidden line items. What you see is what you pay.

Addiction: A Disease That Affects the Entire Family

When one family member struggles with addiction, whether it be an addiction to sex, shopping, substances, or something else, the whole family will inevitably experience damaging effects. Despite this, there is often a lack of awareness of the value of family involvement in the treatment and recovery process. At Healing Springs Ranch, we offer comprehensive family intensive treatment, providing families with the opportunity to heal together from the devastating and far-reaching impacts of addiction and other compulsive behaviors alongside co-occurring mental health disorders, trauma, and more.

As explained in Social Work & Public Health, “Treating the individual without family involvement may limit the effectiveness of treatment for two main reasons: it ignores the devastating impact of SUDs on the family system leaving family members untreated, and it does not recognize the family as a potential system of support for change.” Growing inconsistencies in relationships or family dynamics, experiencing financial challenges, lying for loved ones, and enabling continued engagement in compulsive behavior just scratch the surface of how addiction may impact a family.

Perhaps you have a family member who is experiencing addiction, and you've spent a great deal of time encouraging them to go to treatment and establish sobriety. Yet have you considered the potential benefits of participating in family intensive treatment? Family intensive treatment has the potential to improve not only the whole-person well-being of your family member in recovery but also your well-being in your daily life.

What Is Family Intensive Treatment?

Family intensive treatment, also referred to as intensive family therapy or family intensive program, provides highly structured treatment to families with family members who are working to heal from a wide range of mental, emotional, or behavioral challenges.  Family Intensive involves the entire family in the treatment process, providing intentional time for family members to come together to identify and overcome any presenting problems with the guidance and support of a professional.

Indeed, many problems may have surfaced from a loved one's addictive behavior, but some problems may have existed long before an addiction developed. In either case, Family Intensive provides families with the opportunity to heal from complex dynamics, unresolved conflicts, life transitions, enabling behaviors, emotional wounds, and other challenges together as a unit.

Who Benefits from Seeking Family Intensive?

At Healing Springs Ranch, Family Intensive is available for families who want to come together to heal from the impacts of substance misuse, substance use disorder (SUD), other behavioral addictions, and other mental health concerns. Similar to our other treatment programs, Family Intensive can be individualized to meet the unique needs, circumstances, and goals of each family. This means that Family Intensive can benefit families that are attempting to navigate a wide range of interpersonal and familial dynamics to, ultimately, achieve optimal functioning for all family members.

The Importance of Family Support and Family Intensive in Recovery

Surely, the family unit is an individual's primary source of nurturing, attachment, and learning, especially through their developmental and early adult years. Said differently, healthy family dynamics can work to protect family members against addiction, whereas unhealthy or dysfunctional dynamics can increase members' risk of turning to compulsive behavior in an attempt to self-medicate. When addiction is the reality, then family involvement in treatment can be essential.

In general, family support in recovery can play a crucial role in a loved one's willingness to participate in treatment as well as remain committed to sobriety throughout the lifelong recovery journey. With opportunities such as Family Intensive, families can learn how to support their loved one in treatment by providing validation and empathy while also limiting enabling behaviors. In addition to emotional support, Family Intensive can also provide families with practical ways to hold their loved one in treatment accountable for their recovery goals. Furthermore, the positive family dynamics created in Family Intensive, including healthier communication styles, more open dialogue, and healthy boundaries, among others, can enhance family relationships while ultimately reducing relapse risk.

Choosing Healing Springs Ranch for Family Intensive

At Healing Springs Ranch, we view addictive behaviors as a symptom of a deeper issue, such as unresolved pain or suppressed trauma. While it may not seem like it, addiction often develops as an attempted solution to a problem; in this case, addiction serves the function of avoiding trauma and pain. With programs like Family Intensive, family members can learn to identify, release, and resolve existing pains and trauma so that they no longer need to turn to addictive or self-destructive behaviors to function well or normally in daily life. This, in turn, will create more vulnerable family relationships and healthier functioning for the whole family.

Oftentimes, Family Intensive involves participation in the following:

  • Weekly Family Support Groups
  • Family Intensives

What to Expect from Family Intensive: Evidence-Based Psychotherapy Led by Master-Level Family Therapists

Our Family Intensive program at Healing Springs Ranch is led by master-level family therapists who are focused on facilitating growth and healing. These therapists stress neutral mediation during sessions, ensuring that no one family member feels isolated, validated, or attacked at any given time.

Our program combines evidence-based approaches with holistic modalities to promote the healing of the mind, body, and spirit of each family member. Family Intensive sessions are structured using cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) modalities and associated techniques to assist each member in understanding the interconnectedness of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These modalities are essential for guiding clients in recognizing and reframing cognitive challenges, including negative self-talk, cognitive distortions, unhealthy feelings, and more.

Family psychoeducation is also a critical component of effective Family Intensive that helps to educate family members about the realities of addictive behavior, including addiction as a brain disorder and the high risk of relapse in recovery. Psychotherapy also includes trauma education, helping family members to understand and recognize the risk factors and underlying issues that often contribute to the development of addictive behavior. During sessions, family members have the opportunity to ask questions about the treatment and recovery process to better understand what lies ahead for their loved one in treatment and for their family as a whole.

Other therapeutic tools that may be used in Family Intensive include psychodrama, mindfulness techniques, somatic processing techniques, mind/body techniques, emotional transformation therapy (ETT), feelings in training (FIT), and more.

A Safe and Nurturing Environment for Families

Programs like Family Intensive provide families with the time and space to safely work through conflict, miscommunications, and other tensions as they surface in daily life. Our team of professionals works together to ensure that Family Intensive sessions are as worthwhile and comprehensive as can be. As family members build rapport with their health professional individually over time, they will feel more confident in their ability to come together and be honest with one another about how they are feeling as well as what barriers may stand in their way of achieving wellness and supporting wellness in their family members.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Intensive Therapy

Are you wanting to know more about Family Intensive Therapy at Healing Springs Ranch? Consider the following questions and answers to determine whether you and your family may benefit from Family Intensive Therapy:

Q: Who should attend family therapy sessions?

A: Most families include their immediate household in family therapy sessions. For larger families, it can be helpful to include the individuals who will influence the healing process for the loved one in treatment the most. Oftentimes, this includes parents, siblings, spouses, and/or children. For questions about your unique situation or circumstance, please contact us at Healing Springs Ranch.

Q: Is family therapy confidential?

A: Everything that is said in treatment stays in treatment. In other words, family therapy and other components of Family Intensive Therapy are held to the highest standards of confidentiality.

Q: How do I prepare for a family therapy session?

A: Oftentimes, there is no necessary prep for your initial family therapy session. If there is, your therapist will make this known to you. Your therapist may also offer you working questions and other activities as “homework” between your family therapy sessions. You can prepare for each session by setting aside time to implement any new skills learned in previous sessions and make notes of anything you'd like to discuss in future sessions.

Q: What if some family members don't want to participate?

A: It is not uncommon for family members to be resistant to treatment, even when it means participating together as a family. If this is the case, it is important to approach your family member's concerns with understanding while advocating for the potential benefits that could result from participating in therapy together. While you cannot force someone to attend therapy or be involved in a loved one's recovery process, you can focus your energy on the members who are open to it and want to be involved.
